The key to pretty much everything

How consistent are you with the little things each day? How's your nutrition? Do you get in a good workout? Do you get outside for some sunshine and fresh air? Do you have a supportive group of family and friends around you?

We remember big things in life like major milestones and events. I remember our wedding day (way back in 1992). I remember opening day at the new Braves stadium in 2017 with my dad. I remember my first time doing the CrossFit workout "Fran" and how that felt. I remember pretty much all of the Murph workouts I've done on Memorial Day over the years - many with family and friends. There's also Operation Ocala, the 615 Throwdown, Mayhem on the Mountain, the affiliate workout at North Park in Madison, the Gobble Jogs on Thanksgiving mornings in Marietta, and on and on. I'm sure you have milestones and events popping into your mind right now.

What makes these memorable events and milestones possible? Consistency is one of the themes across them all.

Think about it for a minute. Without consistency in 1990 - 1991, I never would have been able to say "I do" to Tish in 1992. If my dad and I hadn't consistently cultivated a close relationship over the years, that April day in 2017 wouldn't have been the special event that it was for us. And without consistency in the gym, my memories of those workouts with friends and family wouldn't even exist.

We remember the big things, but it's the small things that we do or don't do every day that make those big things possible.

It seems obvious, then, that the little things should have more of a spotlight in our life. Each choice we make takes us a little closer or a little farther from a milestone or key event in life.

A healthy assignment

Today and each day this week, pick one thing to be extra intentional about. It doesn't have to be fitness related (but it can be). Here are a few ideas to pick from:

  • Put down your phone and be present with your partner for at least 10 mins each day.
  • Spend intentional time with your kid(s) each day on something that's important to them.
  • Get outside for sunshine and fresh air each day.
  • Make one more good nutrition choice each day.
  • Get in some good movement each day (either a workout in class or our at-home option or a walk).

Don't go crazy and try to do everything. Pick one or two and be consistent. Be careful, though - if you keep that up, you can change the world!
