Some practical tactics for better sleep
We talk about sleep pretty regularly because it's important to just about everything in life. Sleep and recovery impact how we feel, how we perform, how we interact with family and friends, and our overall health. Getting enough quality and quantity of sleep is a life hack that we all have access to, and it's completely legal.
The problem that I've encountered with sleep recommendations is that they often don't work with a real life schedule of family, job, friends, and other commitments. The theory often sounds good, but the implementation is difficult or requires significant scaling back of what I do daily. Can anyone else relate to that?
Doc Parsley and sleep science
Dr. Kirk Parsley was recently on The Ready State podcast with Kelly and Juliet Starrett. "Doc" Parsley completed SEAL training as a teenager and went on to serve as an active duty member of West Coast SEAL Teams for several years. Following his time on the Teams, he attended medical school and eventually found his way back to the Teams as a Team Doctor. During his time with the Teams as a doctor, he discovered some amazing things about sleep that we can all use to help us live better, feel better, and do better.
Do this one thing for sure
Follow this link to the podcast episode page and download the Stressless Sleep Guide from Doc Parsley. It's seven simple pages that you can scan in just a couple of minutes. The main things I like from this guide...
Now that you have the Stressless Sleep Guide, you have permission to not fall asleep immediately, and you have a strategy to still make the most of your sleep time even if you're not actually asleep. Implement this for the next week and see what a difference it makes.
Do this one more thing to really lock it in
Want to take this one step farther? Listen to the podcast with Doc Parsley. It's eye-opening. The podcast is 1 hour and 22 minutes. I normally don't listen to longer podcasts like that, but I was hooked from the first few minutes. There's a ton of value in it, and it's well worth the time investment.
Did you know...
Did you know that one of the things we as coaches do is to meet with members to discuss goals and help them map out realistic, achievable action plans to crush those goals? It's one of the best parts of our job as coaches, and we'd love to do that with you.
