Have you seen the mobility and running journeys?

If you follow us on social media, you've probably seen my posts about my mobility journey. The post for Day 69 goes up on Sunday morning, and I'm planning to complete Day 70's mobility routine this afternoon.

When I started this mobility journey, I didn't have a particular number of days in mind. I just wanted to improve my mobility because I understand how mobility can impact just about everything in life.

It's working! My mobility is improving, and that improvement is really obvious when we have workouts that include squats, snatches, cleans, etc. What's not so obvious are the improvements in other areas of life. My sleep quality has improved. The mobility routines mitigate soreness after hard workouts. I feel better overall.

What about Daisi and Tannah on their running journey? I love the way they are approaching the running journey. They are regular people who want to get to the point that they are ok with running. They aren't even saying they want to love running - they just want to be ok with it. So, they're taking a very realistic approach to running and having fun in the process.

Now substitute the word "goal" for "journey" and see if it still works

What is a journey and why are we calling what we're doing a journey? Why not just call it a goal? When we get down to it, we really are just working on goals, right?

A goal is a destination. It's normally a fixed event or state that we're looking forward to in the future. It's pretty easy to talk about goals even if we don;'t do it very often. Typical goals are things like:

  • I want to eat healthier.
  • I want to lose weight.
  • I want to get stronger.
  • I want to run better.
  • I want to have more energy.
  • I want to hike the Grand Canyon rim to rim trail.

I'm not going to say these are bad goals. I believe that we should all be working to improve across our entire lifetime. That improvement isn't necessarily physical, either. Take these goals for example:

  • I want to be a better partner.
  • I want to be a better parent.
  • I want to support a charity that's important to me more.

These are also worthy pursuits. Most of us probably have at least a couple of these in mind most of the time. Most of the time, our goals remain unfulfilled. Why is that?

The difference makes a HUGE difference

We're calling these "journeys" because we're focused on the process and not the outcome. The little action that we're taking each day leads to major changes. My mobility journey for today is to complete Day 70. I'm not thinking about improving my overall mobility. I'm focused on executing the 20ish minute routine for today with purpose and intent. I know that will lead to the destination I want.

Tannah and Daisi are focused on one step at a time for their running journey. Sure, they may have in mind that they want to do the Marine Corps Marathon one year, but they are laser focused on getting the next day in their journey done.

One secret ingredient: accountability

I'm sharing my mobility journey with all of you through social media. Every day. That gives me accountability for sticking to the journey.

Daisi and Tannah have each other for accountability, and they're sharing the journey with all of you. Even better accountability.

Translating a goal into a journey

Got goals? Cool. Let's translate those goals into actionable journeys. Journeys lead to destinations, and destinations = achieved goals. The real beauty of this lies in how we can use small victories (reaching relatively near destinations via short journeys) to build to a huge success (faraway destination).

Through hikers on the Appalachian Trail set daily goals with a plan for the day's journey. Eventually, those daily journeys of 15, 20, 25 miles lead to the ultimate success of standing atop Mount Kathadin in Maine.

The role of a coach

Ready to translate your goals into an actionable journey that leads to success? That's literally what we specialize in. We help our members and our community find the goals that matter to them and then map out the journey (or plan) that will take them there. Then, we provide that crucial accountability and assistance along the way.

You can text 817-879-1625 to start the conversation - just lead with the word Coaching. It's nothing automated in the texting so you'll be talking to a real person (me).

Follow our journeys and share yours

We'd love for you to follow our journeys on social media (links at the bottom of our website). We're posting all of these on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube so that everyone can use their platform of choice to help us stay accountable.

Are you on a journey? Ready to start one? Post about it on your favorite platform and tag us in it. You'll be an inspiration to all who see it and probably will inspire others to start or continue their own journey.
